The Village of Buffalo Grove is quite unique because it is located in both in Cook and Lake County, in the northwest suburb of Chicago, about 30 miles northwest of the Chicago Loop. Buffalo Grove is divided along Lake Cook Road into two parts: the Lake County Vernon Township portion; and Wheeling Township in Cook County. About three-quarters of the town are in Vernon Township. Both parties differ in their demographics and similarities to neighboring communities. Buffalo Grove is bordered by Wheeling to the southeast, Arlington Heights to the southwest and south, Riverwoods and Deerfield to the east, Lincolnshire to the northeast, Vernon Hills to the north, and Long Grove to the west and northwest.

The History Of Buffalo Grove, IL

 

Buffalo Grove was first inhabited after the signing of the Chicago Treaty in 1833. The first settlers arrived around 1834. The site was named Buffalo Grove after large amounts of buffalo bones were found in the area. During the first half of the 1900s, various dairy farms and cheese producers flourished in Buffalo Grove. On March 7, 1958, the territory was transformed into a settlement.

A major development was the Buffalo Grove Commerce Center, built-in 1981 with 50 acres of light industrial park on the Lake Cook Road and Soo Line railroad tracks. In the mid-1980s, the Corporate Grove Industrial Park was built to the east and the Buffalo Grove Business Park to the west. Expansion continued north in the 1990s with the arrival of the Arbor Creek Business Center on Aptakisic Road and Barclay Boulevard and the Covington Corporate Center on Busch Road.

In 1992, the United States Postal Service opened a separate post office in Buffalo Grove due to population growth. Present-day, there are no working farms left in Buffalo Grove. It has gone through significant change since the city had its first settlers.
 

Education In Buffalo Grove, Illinois

Just as how Buffalo Grove is split between multiple counties, the city is split among four school districts and three two-district high schools, which belong to District 214 Township High School and Adlai E. Stevenson High School District 125. Most high school students living in the Cook County area attend Buffalo Grove High School, and some attend Wheeling High School Those who live in the Lake County area of the city attend Adlai E. Stevenson High School.
