The area which is known today as the Village of Deerfield was originally settled in 1835. Back then, in the 1840s, the area was called Leclair. Around 1850, when townships began to form, the name Deerfield came from Deerfield, Massachusetts, and because there was a lot of deer in the area. The Village was incorporated in 1903.

The Village does have a good amount of companies. Deerfield is headquarters to some well-known companies, such as Baxter Healthcare (which employed about 1,000 people), Beam, Big Apple Bagels, CF Industries, Caterpillar, Fortune Brands Home & Security, Essendant, Mondelez International, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company,  and Walgreens (which employed about 5,200 people).

 

Education In Deerfield, Illinois


School District 109 serves the area. It has four elementary schools (Kipling, Walden, South Park, and Wilmot), two middle schools (Caruso and Shepard), and two high schools (Deerfield High School and Highland Park High School), with the majority of students attending Deerfield High School and only a tiny portion attending Highland Park High School.

The Village also has a conservative Jewish private high school called, Rochelle Zell Jewish High School and a private University. Trinity International University is a private Christian university, more specifically an Evangelical Divinity School.

 

Deerfield, Illinois Transportation

 

Major roads in the area include Deerfield Road, Lake-Cook Road, Illinois Route 43, Interstate 94 (I-94), and Interstate 294 (I-294). Deerfield has two Metra stations that connect it to Chicago Union Station. There are many PACE bus routes, such as routes 471, 473, 626, 627, 631, 632, 633, 634, and 635, some of which connect the Lake Cook Road station to the local businesses and offices. The Village is near a few airports. The biggest is 15 miles away, the well-known O'Hare International Airport. Midway Airport is about an hour and a half drive, and Palwaukee Airport is only 30 minutes away.
